The Full Guide to your SIS Products

When you’re training hard your body will burn between 60 and 90 grams of carbohydrates per hour. This energy will need to be replaced in order to prevent fatigue and dehydration and keep you performing at your best. That’s where the nutrition products from Science in Sport (SiS) come in.

The GO Isotonic Energy Gel was the world's first isotonic gel effectively delivering an easily digestible and quick supply of carbohydrate for energy during exercise. They are designed to be consumed without water, minimising the risk of being bloated that can sometimes occur with over-drinking. Provides you with 22 grams of carbohydrate per gel.

Three things to remember:

  • Mild flavours to the gels mean that they’re very easy on the stomach.
  • The isotonic formula means you don’t need to drink any extra water to aid digestion – just slam it down and go!

    Three things to remember:

  • Best taken in order to carb load in the lead up to a race or hard ride, but can also be used on the bike.
  • Sachets are a great way to test out flavours in pre-measured portions, while tubs are great for bulk storage.
  • Available in a range of natural flavours – Blackcurrant, Lemon, and Orange.

SiS GO Electrolyte provides an easily digestible and quick supply of carbohydrate for energy. Designed to be versatile, this product can be mixed at various concentrations to suit your needs. SiS GO Electrolyte can be consumed as part of your carbohydrate loading strategy in the days and hours prior to your training or race, with 48 grams of carbohydrate per serving.

    Three things to remember:

  • Similar to the Go Energy powder, but also contains sodium to assist in replacing electrolytes lost through sweat during your ride.
  • Best mixed with 500g of water for optimum efficiency.
  • Available in a range of natural flavours – Blackcurrant, Lemon & Lime, Raspberry and Tropical.

SiS GO Hydro is designed to ensure you are effectively hydrated to produce your best performance. As an effervescent tablet that readily dissolves in plain water, it represents a highly practical approach (simply drop one tablet in your 500 ml water bottle) without the calories. SiS GO Hydro meets your sodium requirements at a specific concentration (30mmol/L) that is scientifically proven to produce superior hydration compared with water alone. It was developed to keep the British Sailing team optimally hydrated at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Simply drop a tablet into water for effective hydration, with virtually no calories, before and during sports.

Overnight Protein SiS Overnight Protein (Vanilla) is made from high quality milk protein in a 50:50 blend with whey protein isolate for a great taste, providing a source of slowly digesting protein with a high amino acid profile to support lean muscle growth and maintenance as you sleep. Milk protein is over 80% casein, which is a slowly absorbed protein and around 20% whey, which is rapidly absorbed. Whey protein stimulates the rate of muscle protein synthesis with its high leucine content. Each serving contains 26-27g of protein per serving and low levels of carbohydrate and fat.

    Three things to remember:

  • Best taken just before bed to assist in muscle repair and training adaptation while you sleep.
  • Each serve contains more than 25g of protein, with limited carbs or fat.
  • Mix with water for best results, though milk is acceptable (and delicious!) too.
  • Available in Chocolate or Vanilla.

Whey Protein SiS Whey Protein contains a blend of high quality whey protein isolate and concentrate, providing a source of rapidly digesting protein. A high amino acid profile which supports lean muscle growth and maintenance, with at least 5g of BCAAs per serving, including 2.4-2.5g of leucine which increases the rate of muscle protein synthesis. Each serving contains 22-23g of protein, depending on the flavour you choose.

    Three things to remember:

  • A great option for those looking to increase protein consumption in order to build lean muscle mass.
  • Each serve contains more than 20g of protein and amino acids to help with
  • Available in Banana, Chocolate, Pineapple & Coconut, Strawberry, and Vanilla.

NB: Please note that the SiS protein range contains milk protein, and as such is not suitable for vegans or those with a dairy-free diet.

BCAA Perform is the latest addition to the SiS range, offering a convenient way to support the maintenance of muscle mass.

    This product contains 6g of BCAAs (3 g leucine, 1.5 g isoleucine and 1.5 g valine) in a 2:1:1 ratio, with an additional 5g of L-Glutamine and 1.5g of L-Arginine.

B-vitamins may help to support the reduction of tiredness and fatigue, making this product the ideal drink to consume before, during or after exercise.

Benefits of BCAA Perform - 255g (Pineapple)

BCAAs are three essential amino acids (leucine, isoleucine and valine) meaning that they must be obtained through the diet. The BCAAs are especially important as they activate (especially leucine) the process of muscle protein synthesis as well as contributing as the building blocks of new proteins formed in the recovery period after exercise. As such, they compromise around a third of the protein within our muscles and therefore help to contribute to the growth of muscle mass. In addition, the BCAAs are also used as energy source during endurance exercise, especially during high-intensity and carbohydrate restricted exercise (i.e. low carb training).

L-Glutamine is the most abundant non-essential amino acid found in muscle tissue. During periods of prolonged and intense exercise, both blood and muscle stores of glutamine can become depleted in the post-exercise recovery period. Glutamine supplementation before and after exercise may therefore improve muscle, immune and gut function. L-Arginine is a non-essential amino acid that may help increase muscle blood flow to allow the greater delivery of nutrients to the working muscles.

SiS Creatine is suitable for anyone partaking in successive bursts of short-term high intensity exercise and looking to increase physical performance.

Creatine Monohydrate is a naturally occurring and non-essential compound that can be obtained through the diet or synthesised in the liver and kidneys. Once synthesised, creatine is predominantly stored in the muscles where it also exists in a phosphorylated form known as phosphocreatine (PCr). The amount of creatine consumed in habitual diets is not sufficient to enhance muscle creatine and PCr stores. Therefore, athletes often supplement with Creatine Monohydrate.

Creatine is one of the most commonly used sports supplements. A daily intake of 5g creatine monohydrate after a loading phase has been shown to increase physical performance in successive bursts of short term high intensity exercise.

L-Glutamine is the most abundant non-essential amino acid found in muscle tissue. During periods of prolonged and intense exercise, both blood and muscle stores of glutamine can become depleted and remain reduced in the post-exercise recovery period. L-Glutamine is also an important energy source for immune and gut cells and cells.

L-Glutamine supplementation can help replenish the diminished L-Glutamine stores post-exercise. L-Glutamine supplementation before and after exercise may therefore improve muscle (promote muscle recovery), immune and gut function.

Beta Alanine is a naturally occurring, non-essential beta amino acid. Beta Alanine combines with muscle L-histidine, helping to increase muscle carnosine stores. Often, Beta Alanine is the limiting factor of low muscle carnosine stores.

Beta Alanine is a commonly used supplement among explosive sports and some endurance events. A daily intake of 3.2g Beta Alanine has been shown to help decrease the onset of fatigue during high intensity exercise lasting 1-4 minutes.
